Deck staining done right

Have you ever had your deck stained and it turn into a disaster shortly after the work was complete?

With wood surfaces, this is actually a common problem.

  1. Most staining products don't hold up very long
  2. People use solid stain instead of a paint

In fact, we tried 30+ staining products before we found a few that actually held up.

There is a couple things to note:

Would surfaces do not hold up very long so I would have your expectations to be staining every 1-3 years.

Horizontal surfaces such as decks hold moisture for longer periods of time than a vertical surface, causing the stain to break down faster and requiring more maintenance.

Stay away from solid stain. It's like a paint and once you use it, it's hard to go back. If you want something solid, we would recommend using a paint that takes a beating in moisture instead.

Oil based stains tend to last long, however; you have to manually apply instead of spraying (the oil will mess up your sprayer).
